Embracing True Godliness: Moving Beyond the Form

Updated: Jul 31, 2024

What’s Happening, Freedom Family?

Real quick, let’s dive into a powerful truth this morning. In 1 Timothy 4:8, it says, “For bodily exercise profiteth little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” One word stands out heavily here: godliness.

Understanding Godliness

For many of us, we carry a form of godliness, but God’s desire is for us to walk in the fullness of it. So, what’s the difference between a form of godliness and true godliness?

True Godliness

  • Heart Devotion: It means having a heart fully devoted to the Father.

  • Reflecting Jesus: It involves reflecting the character and teachings of Jesus Christ.

  • Inward Transformation: True godliness stems from an inward transformation that manifests outwardly.

  • Authentic Virtues: Your humility, patience, love, and obedience are real and not just for show.

  • Genuine Obedience: You obey God not to get something in return but because obedience is the currency of heaven and is required for a godly life.

Form of Godliness

  • Outward Appearance: It’s having the outward expression of godliness without the inward transformation.

  • Conditional Obedience: Obedience is performed conditionally, aiming to receive something rather than out of genuine devotion.

  • Surface-Level Faith: Struggling to truly accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, and recognizing God as the loving Father.

The Challenge

Many of us struggle with fully embracing Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We find it difficult to see God, the Creator of all things, as our personal Father. But to sit at the feet of the Father means recognizing Him as the one who created us, loves us, knows us intricately, and will never leave us. He has every answer we need before we even ask.

Moving from Form to Fullness

This morning, I pray that we all move beyond just a form of godliness and step into the fullness of it. As 1 Timothy 4:8 reminds us, bodily exercise has its benefits, but it profits little compared to godliness, which is profitable for all things, both in this life and the life to come.

Call to Action

So, let’s strive for true godliness. Let’s cultivate a heart fully devoted to God, reflect Jesus authentically, and allow inward transformation to shine outwardly. Embrace godliness that brings real profit, now and forever.

Closing Prayer

I pray that you move from a form of godliness into the fullness of it. Embracing the true essence of godliness and experience the abundant life it promises,

In Jesus' name. Amen
